Master of Arts in Christian Practice (M.A.C.P.)

The M.A.C.P. offers the opportunity to enhance your gifts for ministry as you participate in your local faith community and in secular businesses or organizations. The strength of this 36-unit degree is our faculty who teach from their daily involvement as parish pastors, hospital chaplains, campus ministers, and other expressions of ministry.  These faculty are therefore experienced in integrating theory and practice in the classroom. As you join fellow students in small interactive classes, personal attention is offered to each student both in advising and in the classroom.

Classes are offered in the evenings so as to be accessible to persons combining work and study. Students appreciate the opportunity to take classes throughout Southern California in partner congregations near where they live or work. Students will typically complete the M.A.C.P. in two to two and a half years.

The degree is presently offered in two tracks:

  • Learning and Teaching the Bible
  • Christian Spiritual Formation

For both tracks the opportunity is offered to reflect theologically upon the various practices of lay ministry. This means that the degree balances basic foundational courses in Bible, Church History, Theology, and Christian Education, with courses specific to each track. Thus:
